about

Writing this the day of the release, I am so happy that this single was able to come to life and mark my return to music. 7/7/2017 marked the 2 year mark since I had released any music (Which was Pain (I Wanna Live) in 7/7/2015). Similar to the "Become The Savior" album, this song was something I came up with in a split moment and I knew I had to act upon it. I was in my car just thinking about the issue of how corrupted police get away with the killing of innocent civilians and I wanted to write a spoken word piece on the topic and make a video for it. I quickly realized that would take too long as I am a faster song writer then poetry writer. This is something that needed to be released now. The 1st two lines for the hook popped up in my head as I attempted to write poetry and instantly I knew I had to make a song instead. I went somewhere to write it, and then I finished it up the next day. There was a ton of time put into this putting out this song over the course of 2 weeks. I recorded it the day after writing it. I had to buy the beat and figure out the music video for the song as well. The goal was to put it out as soon possible so there was a lot of stress involved. Even this morning of 7/7/2017 I am still putting together videos and preparing to submit the song to CDBaby. The song got finished being mix and mastered yesterday night and I have played it at least a hundred times checking for errors etc (I’m really picky). I can’t find any. The song is beautiful and I feel like that there are a lot of people out there who feel the same on this issue. I feel that even people who don't listen to the song in full depth can tell this song is not meant to fuel the police vs. the people war. It’s a song that speaks on the many conflictions, frustrations, and fear Americans (I speak more from the black perspective from my point of view) have when it comes to the police and justice system. The question of "What are we supposed to do when the law makes us victims and refuses to put our killers in prison?" is insanely difficult to answer. If you respond to the injustice in an aggressive way, it could unintentionally fuel the police vs people war or even get you jailed/killed. But if you stay silent and do nothing, you’re basically supporting the injustice that is constantly happening to innocent people. I would say the key would be to do something in the middle of those two, but does that really work? No matter how much the people voice their frustrations over the injustices that has happened (Which we have endlessly), they never change anything. So what do you do? I ask myself this a lot and honestly I cannot find the answer yet. You can hear my sadness and frustrations over not being able to on the song and ultimately the song is used to bring that question to a bigger audience. I don't know what we should do, I just know I don't want to do nothing. But I also don’t want to do something will only feed into the cycle and make it worse. It’s very easy to do that unfortunately. This sheds a light onto the corrupted loophole in the justice system. If the people making the decisions are corrupt, what measures are there for people themselves to take action instead? There is none (as far as I know). I don’t generalize all cops as evil. I never will. Police play a key role in our society and we obviously need them… but that doesn’t mean they should have the ability to abuse their power and not get punished for it. That’s not okay. When it comes to this issue, I feel powerless, not because I don’t actually have power, but because I don’t know where or how to effectively use it.

Update: Its almost 6 pm now and i'm just now submitting i decided to make more changes to the song haha (Told you i'm picky with it). My car battery has died twice today just jeez. So much hard work has been put into this track and I hope the message leads to positive change within everyone who hears it.
